Post: American (with EU status) looking to teach in UK
Hello
I am a native New Yorker with dual citizenship to
Ireland (EU/American citizenship). I have just finished my
5th year as an English teacher. I teach 6th-11th grades at
a well-known international school here in
Manhattan. I am also the school's liaison to the prestigious
Lincoln Center Institute Aesthetic Education program. During
the summers I am a literacy coach for a summer camp in the
South Bronx that stresses arts education in literacy. I have
a NY State Provisional Certification, and am currently
working on obtaining my Professional License. I expect to
have completed the necessary coursework by June 2011.
I received my 1st Masters degree at Lancaster University
in 2002. I have strong family and friend ties to England,
and plan on visiting them next March.
I want to stay at my school here in Manhattan until the
end of the 2010-2011 school year (late June), since it will
also give me time to complete my Professional License
coursework.
Although I have EU citizenship, I do not have any formal
training in the British system of teaching. What would I
have to do beforehand to get the ball rolling? I know this
is two years away, but it's a big move, and I'd like to
begin researching things now.
I am interested in teaching in metropolitan areas such as
London or Manchester. I am used to urban students of all
backgrounds and would really love to broaden my experience
with a move to the UK.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
